Dr. André Xavier holds a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration and a PhD in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He works on the natural resources sector on socio-economic mine closure, Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) and environmental governance, focusing on community-led environmental initiatives. He consults for the private sector and organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining and Sustainable Development (IGF). Dr. Xavier worked as a Program Manager at the Canadian International Institute of Natural Resources and Development (CIRDI), leading projects in Mongolia and Latin America, including a Peru program on integrated water resources management in mining contexts.
